The Story
Toronto · Section 349-16.1 · The Reclaim
Here is how it starts.
A pit mix in East York gets reported. Toronto Animal Services runs the file. The dog gets labelled Dangerous. The owner gets the letter: muzzle in public, special collar tag, serial number assigned, file opened for life.
The dog has never bitten anyone. The paperwork doesn't care.
Somebody at a kitchen table shows you the tag. Red anodized aluminum, 32mm, laser-etched: DANGEROUS DOG / CITY OF TORONTO / 416-338-7387 / 1074. It looks like a death-metal pendant. It is also a bureaucratic sentence that will follow the dog for life.
You take a photo. You vectorise the mark. You screen-print it on a hoodie.
That is the whole story.
Why we exist
Toronto Animal Services issues Dangerous Dog designations under section 349-16.1 of the Municipal Code. The criteria are vague — “has bitten or attempted to bite,” with “attempted” doing a lot of work. The appeal process is procedural at best. The designation is permanent. Once your dog is on the list, there is no path off it.
Most of these dogs are pit mixes. Many are rescues. Few have actually hurt anyone. All of them get a serial number.
We can't rewrite the bylaw. We can make the mark mean something else. On a shirt, Dangerous Dog stops being a warning and starts being a side.
Who it's for
Pit mix owners. Mastiff people. Rottweiler families. Shepherd owners whose dog pulled a cop over once. Dog walkers who've argued with Animal Services. Vets who've written letters to help. Rescues who've placed dogs the shelter was ready to put down. Everyone who has ever been side-eyed at a dog park because of what their dog looks like.
If you got the letter, we'd like you to have the merch. If you didn't get the letter, buy it in solidarity.

What's not here
Mass-market “I love my dog” merch. Paw-print accessories. “Dog Mom” sentimentality. Pet-insurance affiliate content. Dog-food brand partnerships. “Fur-baby” voice. If that's what you want, you want a different shop.
Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the City of Toronto, Toronto Animal Services, or any municipality that has ever issued a Dangerous Dog Order under Toronto Municipal Code § 349-16.1 or any equivalent bylaw. The mark is a transformative work of civic commentary.
